Slow cookers are wonderful kitchen tools. They are affordable to buy, economical to use and great to make delicious and healthy recipes within no time.
Slow cooker manufacturers offer us a great low-fat healthier method of cooking. Here are a few slow cooker recipes that you’ll love to make and eat.
1. Slow Cooker Bone Broth
- Beef, chicken or veal bones (just ask your butcher what they have)
- 1 leek, roughly chopped
- Juice of 1 lemon
- 2 carrots, roughly chopped
- 2 carrots
- 1 celery stick, roughly chopped
- 1 bay leaf
Heat oven to 160 degree F (180 degree C). Spread the bones on a baking sheet and roast for an hour, turning them over after half an hour.
Heat the slow cooker if required. Pack the veggies in the slow cooker, add bones and sufficient water to fill the pot up to 2cm below the top. Add lemon juice and bay leaves. Put the lid and cook on low flame for around 18-36 hours. The longer you cook, the darker the broth will become.
Place a colander over a bowl and take out all bones in the colander. Using a fine sieve, strain all the liquid. Add seasonings only if you need. Keep the broth aside for cooling. You can store it in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
2. Slow Cooker Turkish Breakfast Eggs
- 4 eggs
- 2 onions, finely chopped
- 8 cherry tomatoes
- 1 red pepper, cored and finely chopped
- 1 tbsp olive oil
- 2 tbsp skimmed milk
- 4 tbsp natural yogurt, to serve
- A small bunch of parsley, finely chopped
- 1 slice sourdough bread, cubed
- 1 small red chili, finely chopped
Oil the inner side of the slow cooker and heat if required. Heat the rest of the oil in a heavy-based fry pan. Add onions, chili and pepper and cook till they start to soften. Pour in the slow cooker and add cherry tomatoes and bread. Stir and season.
Whisk the eggs with parsley and milk and pour over top in such a way that all the ingredients are covered. Cook for 5-6 hours.
Serve with yogurt.
3. Slow Cooker Bio Yogurt
- 2 liter whole milk
- 100 ml live yogurt
Take milk in slow cooker, cover and heat till temperature reaches 82 degree C which will take a couple of hours. Turn off the slow cooker and let the temperature lower to 43 degree C for 2-3 hours. Take a mugful of this milk, and add yogurt to it and then pour the mixture into the slow cooker. Stir well. Cover and wrap the slow cooker in a big towel and set aside undisturbed for 9-12 hours.
You can top cereals, porridge, fresh fruit and marinades with this yogurt and add it to smoothies.
